I love watermelons. Second to mangoes, they are my most favorite of all fruits. This is the time of the year when we have plenty of watermelons in local markets. There are all sorts --- round ones, elongated ones, dark and light green types, seedless, and with seeds. In fact, I think there more than 50 varieties of watermelons available worldwide. It is a healthy food item, and here are some of the health benefits ascribed to it.

Locally known as pakwan, they are the perfect dessert to any meal, and are best served chilled in juicy slices. The redder they are, the better. Here are more tips on how to choose the best watermelons.
